Real Estate market of the Specified Neighborhood
As the general area in Philadelphia has transformed from a lower income, working class community to an area of wealthy property owners, the same can be said for the Italian Market Area. The area that was once heavily dominated by laborers and small shop workers has become transformed by the comfortable, upscale shops with outdoor cafe seating and high end gourmet eateries that thrive with the well known Italian Market traditional produce vendors, cheese shops and meat markets. This Philadelphia real estate has grown in value with Philadelphia row houses along the familiar streets in the Italian Market Area.
History of the area
The Italian Market is on Ninth Street. It began as a place where the first immigrants began to make homes in the area. Immigrants descended on the area. Antonio Palumbo who was a landlord that was noted for taking in Italian immigrants in his boardinghouse. This brought a healthy influence of Italian shops catering to that community. There are still many of these shops doing business in the area, even as the 1970s brought in large supermarket chains causing a decline of the Ninth Street Market area.
This portion of Philadelphia has popular Philadelphia real estate for sale. The scenery is dominated by awnings and cafes, dotted with vendors of fruit, fish, fresh vegetables, and kitchen ware. Many of the businesses have homes located above, occupied by the shop owners who manage their shops below.
